Decentralized Tech Livestream: Beyond Play-to-Earn
Check out the livestream with Earnscape CEO/Founder, Steve Wood hosted by John Radoff, a leading voice on theWeb3 and CEO of Beamable.
They dive deep into the intersection of blockchain technology, gaming, and online communities.
For Mass Adoption, Web3 Must Be Invisible
Web3 gaming will only succeed if the technology is invisible. Ultimately, onboarding Web3 users means giving players a great game that works seamlessly.
Currently, 99.9% of the gaming market operates on “Web2” principles, but players don’t define themselves that way. They want to avoid the friction of setting up wallets or converting currency. Therefore, to onboard the next billion users, the experience must be completely intuitive. In fact, players shouldn’t even know that blockchain is involved.
Solving the Real Onboarding Problem
According to Steve, developers have already solved the technical side of onboarding. However, the industry still struggles with the marketing and sales approach for most applications. His solution is simple: build systems where users “don’t have to know what they’re going to be using.” In other words, “it should just work.”
True Ownership Ends Sunk Costs in Gaming
Earnscape, for instance, tackles this challenge with its upcoming token. This token will function as a simple add-on to existing payment options. As a result, the system feels familiar like Web2, even though it runs on-chain.
This model gives players true ownership of their assets and makes incentives onboarding Web3 users. In traditional games, players lose the money they spend on boosts or items forever. With Web3, however, you truly own what you buy. Consequently, you can sell assets from one game on an open market and use that money to fund your next adventure.
The Power of Live-Streaming for Growth
Additionally, Earnscape uses live-streaming to boost player discovery. Because all modern marketing is personal, streaming provides powerful social proof. As Steve explains, most players won’t try a new game without this proof. Specifically, they need to see “someone they know and trust” play it first. This person-to-person marketing is therefore fundamental for acquiring new users.
To support this growth, Steve also highlights the importance of tracking market trends and cultivating communities that welcome everyone, not just those already in Web3.
The keynote was a powerful reminder of the transformative potential of blockchain technology. As we move into an increasingly digital future, the ideas and innovations being discussed at Korea Blockchain Week will play a crucial role in shaping the world of tomorrow.
